GE heads into offshore wind, acquires ScanWind

GE announced it’s expanding its involvement in the offshore wind power generation market. The company completed the acquisition of a Norway-based developer of drive-train and turbine technologies for the offshore wind market. ScanWind, based in Trondheim, has turbine technology intended to eliminate gearboxes to improve maintenance and reliability.

Grainger buys majority stake in Japanese MRO direct marketer

Grainger announced that it has purchased the majority interest (53%) in MonotaRO Co., Ltd., a direct marketer of MRO supplies based in Osaka, Japan. In 2008, MonotaRO had revenues of $136M and operating earnings of $11 million.
