Brian J. Herr, an executive with WESCO Distribution Inc. who is also chairman of the Hopkinton, Mass., Board of Selectmen, said he will seek the Republican nomination for Congress from the Massachusetts’ 3rd District, joining several possible challengers to sitting U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern, the Telegram (Worcester, Mass.) reported today.
According to the Telegram, Herr said he hopes to bring his business background to bear on national policies if elected. “The more private-sector thinking we can impart in the public sector the better off we will be,” he said of his approach to problems facing government.
Herr, a Pittsburgh native, has an engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in government from Harvard University.
