Greenlee realigns sales team

Greenlee, a Textron Inc., company based in Rockford, Ill., announced the realignment and enhancement of its sales team structure to provide a greater focus on the electrical and utility channels, according to Matt Sisco, vice president of Electrical, Retail and Utility Sales.

Chera Ellis has been promoted to director, North American Utility Sales. In her new role, Ellis will be responsible for establishing the vision and executing a strategy for the Utility channel. Ellis has been with Greenlee for nine years and has held increasingly responsible positions throughout her tenure.

Joel Smith has returned to Greenlee in the position of regional sales manager, Western Region. Smith had worked for Greenlee in the sales group for over 13 years.

Neil Burns continues in his current role of national sales manager, Canada, with additional responsibilities covering the Northeast U.S. region. Richard McCulloch now has responsibility for the East region and Randy Shook leads the Central region, which is a combination of the company’s former Midwest and Southwest regions.

Scott Swift has accepted the position of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) accounts manager. Swift will develop and implement a sales and marketing plan for OEM/private label opportunities, Sisco said.

GE to Install 4MW Wind Turbines Offshore in Scandinavian Waters

An AP report says GE plans to install up to five offshore demonstration wind turbines through partnerships in Norway and Sweden. The AP article says the GE has signed deals with Norwegian energy companies Statoil and Lyse to together carry out technical and environmental feasibility studies for building an offshore wind demonstration project off the southwest coast of Norway. The installation of the wind turbines could start in 2012, based on results of the studies. General Electric earlier this year announced a $450 million expansion of its European offshore wind turbine business.

Emerson Tops ABB’s Offer for Chloride

Emerson wants to add to its package of UPS products and has upped its offer for Chloride to $1.5 billion, topping the $1.25 billion ABB has on the table for the company.

Home Depot Insider Cashes in $1.7 Million in Shares

According to a recent report in Barron’s David Batchelder, a Home Depot director, sold 1.2 million shares for $36 million.

Western United Electric Supply Hires Mele as Director of Business Development

Western United Electric Supply Corp. (Brighton, CO): Dave Mele has been hired as director of business development for the New Mexico and Arizona electric utility markets. Prior to joining Western United, Dave spent 30 years with WESCO in various management capacities including the last 17 years as manager of their branch operations in Albuquerque. Dave will continue to reside in the Albuquerque area. Western United is a distributor serving the electric utilities in Coloroado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas and Utah.

Siemens to Open Bank

According to a June 28 Associated Press report, Siemens AG plans to open a bank and provide financial services to its customers for project financing. Details

Grainger Expands in South America

W.W. Grainger Inc., Lake Forest, Ill., is expanding operations in Colombia through aa joint venture with an affiliate of Torhefe S.A., THF International SAS. Grainger owns an 80 percent majority position in the joint venture, with THF International SAS maintaining 20 percent.
Torhefe, with 2009 sales of $23 million USD, is a leading distributor of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies in Colombia, with an emphasis on fasteners. The company has five locations in Colombia, including Barranquilla, Bogota, Cali, Cartagena and Medellin. The joint venture plans to operate under the Torhefe brand name in its existing locations, transitioning to the Grainger name over the next year.

SunPower Smashes Record for PV Cell Efficiency

SunPower Corp. San Jose, Calif., has produced a full-scale solar cell with a sunlight to electricity conversion efficiency of 24.2 percent at its manufacturing plant in the Philippines. The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) confirmed that this is a record for large area silicon wafers. Details

GE to Double Investment in Green Technology by 2015

GE says its efforts to juice up the company’s profits with green R&D have paid off in markets as far-ranging as locomotives, wind turbines, aircraft and LEDs and that it will spend an additional $10 billion by 2015. The company said revenue from green products and services increased 6 percent to $18 billion in 2009. Details
