EnOcean GmbH (Oberhaching, Germany): Laurent Giai-Miniet has been appointed CEO Together with Andreas Schneider, Chief Marketing Officer, and Uwe Thumm, CFO, he will promote the company’s technology and drive business growth on a global scale. He will replace Markus Brehler, who has left the company. Giai-Miniet spent 20 years with Texas Instruments (TI), where he has held several management positions. Most recently he was general manager for Low Power RF Products (LPRF), based in Oslo, Norway. Founded in 2001, EnOcean manufactures and markets wireless modules that draw their power from the surrounding environment through energy harvesting. They draw energy from movement, light or differences in temperature to enable fully energy-autonomous and maintenance-free solutions for building and industrial automation. There are already more than 200,000 buildings that use EnOcean wireless sensors, and over 800 interoperable products.

Springfield Electric Supply Announces Acquisition of Heintz Electric
Springfield Electric Supply Co. purchased the assets of Heintz Electric Co., Quincy, Ill. Locations acquired include Quincy; Hannibal, Mo.; and Keokuk, Iowa. Springfield Electric now has 16 branch operations and is headquartered in Springfield, Illinois. Next year will mark the Springfield Electric Supply Co.’s 80th anniversary. The company is a partial ESOP with more than 275 associate owners.
Toshiba bolsters LED team with U.S. lighting executives
Toshiba International Corp., which recently discontinued its production of standard incandescent lamps to focus on LEDs and other solid-state lighting products, has assembled team of U.S. lighting veterans to lead its LED Lighting Systems Division.
Ken Honeycutt, is now senior V.P. of Toshiba International Corp. and chief venture executive for Toshiba. He spent most of his lighting career with Acuity Brands Lighting, where he rose to the position of CEO. Also on the Toshiba LED Lighting Systems Division’s senior management team are Mark Altomare, V.P. of business development, who was regional V.P. of sales at Hubbell Lighting and a divisional V.P. at Hagemeyer North America; Peter DallePezze, V.P. of marketing and product development, who had with lighting experience at Holophane Corp.; and Jim McKenzie, acting director of operations, who had previous lighting experience with Lighting Science Group and Acuity Brands Specialty Products. Also on this management team is Keisuke Ono, technology executive officer, and a 20-year Toshiba veteran.
Grainger CEO looks to global expansion
W.W. Grainger Inc., Lake Forest, Ill., is moving fast on its mission to become a more global distributor, as you can see from its recent acquistions of Acklands-Grainger Inc., Fercomat Inc., Canada’s largest distributor of industrial, safety and fastener supplies through its Acklands-Grainger division, and its purchase of Fabory, a large Dutch fasteners distributor.
CEO Jim Ryan offers some interesting details on this strategy in this Seeking Alpha posting on its recent acquisition of Fabory. Grainger plans to use Fabory, which is considered Europe’s “master of fasteners,” as a base for future expansion. Fabory last year did approximately $350 million in sales and has more than 1,600 team members at 120 locations in 14 countries.
Construction starts up eight percent in August according to McGraw-Hill
McGraw-Hill Construction said construction starts in August advanced eight percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $424.7 billion. The gain followed a 10% decline in July, and continued the fluctuating pattern that’s been present in recent months. The pickup for total construction in August was the result of greater activity for each of construction’s three main sectors – nonresidential building, residential building, and nonbuilding construction. For the first eight months of 2011, total construction on an unadjusted basis was reported at $274.8 billion, down 6% from the same period a year ago, according to McGraw-Hill

Ideal announces executive appointments

Nick Shkordoff
Shkordoff had been president of Anderson Power Products (APP), an Ideal subsidiary that designs and manufactures high power interconnects and accessories. Previously, he was president of Ideal Industries Canada. In addition, Jeffrey Burkhardt, currently V.P. of global sales and marketing for Anderson Power Products, has been appointed that company’s new general manager, succeeding Shkordoff.
Stahlin appoints Slivinski national sales manager
Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures (Belding, Mich.): David Slivinski is now national sales manager. He has more than 20 years of professional sales management experience at Fischer Flack, (Kendall Electric), and Rockwell Automation. Most recently he served as V.P. of worldwide sales and marketing for GlobalWatt, a business specializing in solar power applications for speciality markets. Slivinski graduated from Michigan Technological University with a major in electrical Engineering.
Leviton hires national sales manager of renewables
Leviton Manufacturing Co. (Melville, N.Y.): Scott Wilson has joined the company as national sales manager–renewables and will be responsible for sales and marketing of Leviton solar energy products throughout the U.S. He will be based in Chula Vista, Calif. Prior to joining Leviton, Wilson was region V.P. of sales for DRI Energy, where he was responsible for overseeing a sales organization developing solar energy projects throughout the western U.S. Prior to his tenure at DRI Energy, he was general manager for McBride Electric, a large national electrical contractor and solar construction company where he was responsible for the leadership and sales management of three divisions of the company. Wilson is a graduate of Criss College and Control Data Institute of Technology.
Sadlowski to become CEO of International Battery
International Battery Inc. (Allentown, Pa): Dennis Sadlowski, formerly CEO of Siemens Energy & Automation, is now CEO. In other changes on the company’s executive team, Mark Mills, International Battery’s current chairman of the board, assumes the position of executive vice chairman and Dr. Ake Almgren, the company’s current CEO, is retiring from that position and has become chairman. In addition to holding several executive positions at Siemens, Sadlowski was V.P. and general manager at Thomas & Betts. He also spent 10 years at General Electric, served on the board of governors of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and holds an MBA from Seattle University and a BS in chemical & nuclear engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
Dennis Gravette Joins Arlington Industries’ Sales Team
Arlington Industries, (Scranton, Pa.): Dennis Gravette, formerly Western regional manager for Burndy, will join the Arlington sales team effective Oct. 1. He will assume the position of Western regional manager currently held by Larry Troxel in Jan. 2012. Troxel will remain with the company, assuming a newly created market development role for Arlington. Gravette has 30-years of experience in the electrical industry. He resides in Huntington Beach, Calif.
