GE Energy Services Acquires Metering Company for UK Market

GE Energy Services, Atlanta, has acquired Remote Energy Monitoring, Ltd. with operations in the United Kingdom and Australia. This acquisition enhances GE’s ability to address the European Union’s goals for a lower-emission, higher efficiency energy infrastructure. Remote Energy Monitoring’s software and hardware technologies allow consumers and utilities to better monitor and manage their energy usage. The modular design of their solutions makes them field upgradeable, enabling utilities to integrate new capabilities in the future without the time and expense of switching out meters.

Legrand Expands Data Center Capabilities with Electrorack Acquisition

Legrand, North America, West Hartford. Conn., has acquired Electrorack Products Co., Anaheim, Calif., a specialist in cabinets, power and cooling solutions. Electrorack is a player in the fast-growing data center market, where demand for cabinets and accessories in data centers, broadcast and broadband, industrial and military/aerospace/shipboard markets is expected to expand by 10% annually in the United States over the next few years, according to a Legrand press release.
The acquisition will become part of Legrand’s Data Communications division, and Legrand plans to make Electrorack a center of excellence for manufacturing and engineering of cabinets, cooling and power products,. The Electrorack management team will remain in place and report directly to Mark Panico, president of the Data Communications division of Legrand, North America.

OneSource Acquires SoCal Tool and Industrial Supply Distributor

OneSource Distributors, LLC, Oceanside, Calif., is acquiring D&D Tool and Supply of Vista, Calif., a distributor of industrial, safety and tooling supplies with locations in Southern California and Tijuana, Mexico.
D&D Tool and Supply will continue under the same name as a division of OneSource. Accounting and logistics operations will be consolidated while sales and service operations will continue under the leadership of Georgia Dutro, who will .serve as president of the D&D Industrial Supply, Safety and Tool division reporting to Mike Smith, COO and Bob Zamarripa, OneSource’ chairman and CEO Founded in 1947 by Dollie Dutro, former wing walker and stunt pilot, D&D has locations in Vista, Otay and Brea, California plus Tijuana, Mexico.

ABB to buy Baldor Electric

In an acquisition that’s sure to send shock waves through the motor market, ABB Ltd. (ABB), Zurich, Switzerland, announced plans to buy Baldor Electric, Fort Smith, Ark. According to a Baldor press release, this acquisition will enable ABB to penetrate the North American industrial
market by using Baldor’s strong North American market access and will allow Baldor to expand globally by using ABB’s distribution network abroad. ABB plans to acquire Baldor for $63.50 per share for an overall transaction value of $4.2 billion, including net debt of $1.1 billion. Details

Belden expands in industrial networking with GarrettCom purchase

Belden Inc. (BDC), St, Louis, plans to expand its business far past its roots in electronic wire and cable with its purchase of GarrettCom, Fremont, Calif., a provider of advanced industrial networking products and smart-grid solutions. The acquisition adds industrial grade switches, routers, converters, serial communications, and security software to Belden’s basket of products. GarrettCom sells its products into power utilities, surveillance and security, transportation, specialty industrial automation, telecommunications, and similar demanding harsh-environment verticals through a network of system integrators, OEMs, and international distributors. T&B sells VDV business for $78 million

Thomas & Betts (TNB), Memphis, Tenn., has sold its Communications Products Business to Belden Inc. (BDC), St. Louis, for $78 million in cash. The sale includes T&B’s Snap-N-Seal drop connectors; LRC hardline connectors; Diamond hardware and grounding products; and telecom enclosures and connectors, including the Kold-N-Klose enclosure system. Cape Electrical Supply acquires Cumberland Electric for 22nd branch

Cape Electrical Supply, Cape Girardeau, Mo., has acquired Cumberland Electric Supply, Somerset, Ky. Cumberland Electric will offer Cape Electrical Supply a broader market presence in Kentucky. Cape Electrical Supply’s branch network now stretches across the southern tier of the state from Paducah in the west, Bowling Green in the central part of the state, and now eastward to Somerset. Cumberland serves a wide range of customers in the surrounding market area and has been in business since 1962.
Marty Mize will continue in his role as Cumberland Electric’s general manager, and Glen Wheeler will remain sales manager. Cumberland becomes the 22nd location for Cape Electric and the company’s sixth store in Kentucky. Cape Electric Supply was ranked #78 on Electrical Wholesaling’s most recent Top 200 ranking.

EMCOR buys specialist in government construction

EMCOR Group Inc. (EME), Norwalk, Conn., acquired Harry Pepper & Associates, Inc. Jacksonville, Fla., a privately held government infrastructure project company with 2010 estimated revenues of approximately $100 million. Pepper provides diversified prime contracting services to federal and state government agencies and local municipalities and has strong relationships with clients such as the Department of the Navy, Army Corps of Engineers, Department of the Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps. and municipalities, townships and cities in Florida. Grainger buys provider of safety training

W.W. Grainger Inc. (GWW), Lake Forest, Ill., has acquired SafetyCertified Inc., Fleming, Island, Fla., which providesonline programs to help organizations comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. The programs feature OSHA analysis, compliance, training and research. Grainger will offer this fee-based online service to complement its safety product line and focus on comprehensive safety solutions. SafetyCertified also markets books and publications related to safety procedures in the workplace. Details

GE Energy to buy Dresser for $3 billion

GE Energy (GE), Atlanta, plans to acquire Dresser Inc., a global energy infrastructure technology and service provider for $3 billion. Dresser’s portfolio includes technologies for gas engines, control and relief valves, measurement, regulation and control solutions for gas and fuel distribution. GE says the deal will expand its core energy offerings and extend its reach into adjacent offerings for its energy and industrial customers around the world. Details
