Tyco International Ltd. (Schaffhausen, Switzerland): Frank Sklarsky is joining the company as executive V.P. and CFO, effective Dec. 1. In this role, he succeeds Christopher Coughlin, who will advise Tyco on certain projects until his retirement in 2011. Coughlin has served as the company’s executive V.P. and CFO since 2005. Sklarsky joins Tyco from Eastman Kodak where he was executive V.P. and CFO for the past four years. Sklarsky has also held executive posts with ConAgra Foods, Chrysler, Dell and Ernst & Young. He earned his M.B.A. from Harvard University and a BS in accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Obituary: Legendary owner of Griffith Electric Supply passes away
Mrs. Meta Griffith, 101, owner of Griffith Electric Supply Co. Inc., Trenton, N.J., passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 30. She and her husband, William Griffith, founded Griffith Electric Supply Co., Inc. in 1938. When her husband passed away in 1971, Meta became Griffith Electric Supply’s chairman of the board and president. She was actively involved in the company’s affairs up until the time of her death, and her generosity to the local community and business acumen made her an inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know her.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Saul’s Colonial Funeral Home, Hamilton Square, N.J. In lieu of flowers, her family has asked for ask for donations in Mrs. Griffith’s name be made to The Children’s Home Society of N.J., 635 South Clinton Ave., Trenton, NJ 08611.

ESCO ConEd Solutions names new director of sales for Colorado
ConEdison Solutions (Denver): Paul Engle will serve as director of sales for Colorado. He most recently served as an account executive for Ennovate Corporation of Aurora, Colo., where he qualified and developed energy performance contracting projects with state and local governments in Colorado and Nebraska. Engle also has experience with The Energy Group Inc. of Des Moines, Iowa, the contracted consulting firm for the state’s largest utility company, MidAmerican Energy. At that post he helped launch MidAmerican Energy’s BusinessCheck energy audit program.
ConEdison Solutions’ energy services clients around the nation includes government facilities, universities, public school districts, and hospitals. The company delivers energy services to many of its customers through Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC), which allow clients to replace old, inefficient, high-maintenance equipment with new state-of-the-art energy-efficient equipment without investing capital or assuming budgetary risk.
Westinghouse Lighting appoints new regional manager for western U.S.
Westinghouse Lighting (Philadelphia): Patrick Levis has been hired as regional sales manager for the company’s western U.S. operations. He comes to Westinghouse with more than 20 years of sales experience in the consumer marketplace. Levis’ past experience includes positions with Hunter Fan, Philips Lighting and Amerlux Lighting Solutions.
Platt Electric’s Auter promoted to V.P. of Western Washington region
Platt Electric Supply (Beaverton, Ore): Jeff Auter has been appointed V.P. of the company’s Western Washington Region. He has been with Platt for more than 17 years and will be responsible for overseeing Platt’s current 20 branches in the Western Washington region. Auter is a graduate of Washington State University.
Former Graybar exec DeSousa joins Crescent Electric Supply

General Cable appoints two to board of directors
General Cable Corp. (BGC), Highland Heights, Ky., announced that its board of directors appointed Charles “Chip” McClure Jr. and Patrick Prevost to serve as independent directors of the company until they stand for election at the next annual meeting of stockholders in 2011. Park joins Horizon Solutions’ lighting & energy services subsidiary
Horizon Lighting & Energy Services (HLES) Quincy, Mass.: Jenifer Parke is now part of Horizon Solutions’ Lighting and Energy Services team as business development manager in upstate New York. She has an extensive background in the lighting and energy-efficiency business, and will work with new and existing customers to design and implement energy-efficient systems that will generate the greatest return on investment for customers’ efficiency projects. She has previous experience in account management for a factory-direct lighting manufacturer; specification design with architects and engineers; account management for distributor sales; and most recently sales management at a national energy-efficiency company. She will be based out of Horizon Solutions’ Rochester, N.Y., office.
Obituary: Tristate Electrical Supply’s John Waltersdorf
John Waltersdorf, former owner of Tristate Electric Supply, Hagerstown, Md., passed away on Sept. 2. He is survived by one son, John G. Waltersdorf of Hagerstown; three daughters, Elizabeth Grayson Oldfather of Philadelphia; Margaret Waltersdorf and Roberta Annan Waltersdorf both of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
Over the past 60 years, Waltersdorf was one of the electrical wholesaling industry’s most respected leaders. He was president of National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) from 1970-1971 and served as the president and chairman of the board of trustees for the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) from 1974-1976. Waltersdorf also received the James H. McGraw Award for Electrical Men for Research Leadership in Distributor Data-Processing in 1975, and the 1997 GEM Award for Electrical Distributors from Electrical Wholesaling.
He was a true renaissance man with a wide variety of interests outside the electrical industry. In addition to serving in dozens of volunteer positions in the electrical and distribution industries and in his local community and receiving degrees from Yale and the University of Chicago, Waltersdorf official photographer with “Operation High Jump,” the last expedition led by Admiral Richard E. Byrd to the South Pole, according to his Baltimore Sun obituary. The film shot on this expedition was used in “Secret Land” which won the Academy Award Best Documentary Film of the Year in 1949.
Walterdorf was also a mentor and good industry friend to several generations of editors at Electrical Wholesaling magazine and we will miss him.
