Van Meter appoints Wilhelm as director of energy services & solutions

Van Meter Industrial (Cedar Rapids, Iowa):Karmen Wilhelm was recently named director of energy services and solutions at Van Meter Industrial. She previously held the position of manager in the Product Management – Energy Efficiency department at Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As director of energy services and solutions, Wilhelm will be leading Van Meter Industrial’s clean energy initiative encompassing energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart grid technologies.

Stahlin hires new division controller

Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures (Belding Mich): Thomas Gambon has been appointed division controller. He has more than 30 years of financial management and accounting experience, most recently as a CFO of Humphrey Products Company, Kalamazoo, Mich. Gambon earned a B.S. in finance from Northern Illinois University.

EGS appoints new marketing communications specialist

EGS Electrical Group (Rosemont, Ill.): Lauren Harrington has been appointed marketing communications specialist for the brands of the EGS Electrical Group, including SolaHD. She holds a B.A. degree from Purdue University and was most recently employed as the public relations manager for USA Team Handball, an organization under the United States Olympic Committee.

Lachance joins Sonepar Canada from Wolesley as V.P. of vendor relations

Sonepar Canada (Mississauga, Ontario): Paul Lachance has been appointed V.P. of vendor relations. He spent over 23 years at Wolseley Canada (formerly the mechanical division of Westburne) where he was most recently president and CEO. Under his direction, the company more than doubled its annual revenue and established itself as the largest heating and plumbing distribution company in Canada. Sonepar Canada haqs more than 90 branches within six operating companies — CenturyVallen, Gescan BC, Gescan Prairies, Lumen, Osso Electric and Texcan.

Huang appointed CTO at General LED

General LED (San Antonio, Texas): The firm, parent company of AgiLight and GenLED Lighting, has appointed Michelle Huang as Chief Technology Officer to lead the companies’ product development and R&D efforts. Huang brings extensive knowledge of LED technologies from chip, package to system along with a background in both the engineering and manufacturing of LED (light-emitting diode) lamps. She also has a strong base in lighting design and application. She is based at the company’s San Antonio headquarters. Huang joins General LED after three years as LED Lamps product line manager, North America at Osram Sylvania. She also served as an electrical engineer at Siemens Factory Automation in Beijing, China and began her career as an electrical engineer at the Beijing Building Design Institute of the China State Construction Engineering Corporation in Beijing, China.

Yokogawa taps Mroz as COO

Yokogawa Corp. of America (Houston): Chet Mroz has been named president and COO of Yokogawa’s North American operations. He is based in the Sugar Land, Texas, office and is responsible for all day-to-day operations in North America. Throughout his career in the industrial automation industry he has run national and international businesses for Foxboro, Texas Instruments and ABB.

Obituary: Bob McCully, well-known lighting exec

Robert McCully, of Middletown, N.J. died Saturday, Jan. 29, at his
home, according to his obituary in the Asbury Park Press. He was a lighting executive with Philips Lighting, Simkar Lighting, and Edison Price Lighting and was active with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Fulham appoints Bremser as V.P. & Global Product Manager of LED Products

Fulham Co, Inc. (Hawthorne, Calif.): Dr. Michael Bremser has joined the company as V.P. and global product manager of LED Products, including Fulham ThoroLED LED Drivers, LED Lamps and LED Lightbars. Bremser holds a Ph.D. in materials engineering from NC State University with 17 years of experience in blue/white LED development in academic, commercial and international environments. His experience includes R&D, manufacturing and applications engineering for companies including Aixtron and Permlight. He also serves as a technical consultant to US Department of Energy (DOE).
As the individual in charge of Fulham’s LED program expansion, Bremser will leverage his expertise in white LED products, spanning LED chip development to end-user lighting applications. “Michael brings a unique combination of technical and business savvy to Fulham’s LED program,” states Brian Wald, Fulham CEO.

Miller promoted to executive post at Dow Wire & Cable

Dow Wire & Cable/Dow Chemical Co. (Houston): Brad Miller is now global marketing director and will drive strategic growth initiatives utilizing Dow Wire & Cable’s portfolio of products, technologies and power industry expertise. Miller has been with Dow for more than 20 years. He holds a BA from Michigan State University and an MBA from Indiana University.

NLB re-elects Lewis as chairman

National Lighting Bureau (NLB): Silver Spring, Md.: Howard Lewis, representing the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), has been re-elected chair of the National Lighting Bureau. Also re-elected to Bureau offices were Vice Chair Cary Mendelsohn (Imperial Lighting Maintenance Co.), representing the International Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), and Secretary/Treasurer James Yorgey, technical applications manager for Bureau Sponsor Lutron Electronics Co. Inc. Lewis is the president of Lighting Alternatives, a fluorescent fixture manufacturer headquartered in Cherry Hill, N.J. Long-active in IES activities, Mr. Lewis recently completed his third, nonconsecutive term as president of the IES Philadelphia Section. Before establishing Lighting Alternatives in 2003, Mr. Lewis spent more than 30 years in lighting, with an emphasis on product manufacturing. He holds B.S. degree from Franklin Pierce University. NLB is an independent, not-for-profit, lighting-education organization sponsored by professional societies, trade associations, manufacturers, utilities, and agencies of the U.S. government.
